Treating people with respect helps us get along with each other, avoid and resolve conflicts, and create a positive social climate. We see that respectful behavior means treating others with civility and courtesy, accepting personal differences, listening to what others have to say, and refraining from ridiculing, embarrassing or hurting others. Each and every one of us has a role in creating a respectful climate in the class.
Things to refrain from doing to your classmates:
- making racist jokes about "colour" or pork, this is a very lame thing to do, not meaningful at all.
- making remarks about "your mum"/ "your dad", leave parents out of your quarrels, they're absoultely innocent.
- making jokes about sizes... and i mean all kinds of sizes.
- calling gals ah lians and boys ah bengs, don't steoretype.
Things to refrain from doing to your teachers:
- talk while the teacher is conducting a lesson.
- run around like nobody's business when the teacher is inside the class.
- sit on the tables, there's a reason and purpose why the school provide you with chairs, tables are not meant to be sit on in the first place, teachers don't scold doesn't mean we allow or condone.
- constantly going to toilet unless you have a bladder problem.
- "illegal gathering" during a lesson.
- playing trading/poker cards and all other forms of cards.
- using handphones, it's rude and violation of the school rules.
Guiding principle: if you want people to treat you with respect, you must first treat people with respect. Teachers dun pick on you for no reasons, we dun have the time/energy nor do we think it is fun to do so. And never say "other people also do that wat". Dun look at others, check your own behaviour.
Hope we can be "enlightened" after reading this.
